Job Title: SVP and Head of Carrier Relations & Management

Location: Boise, ID (Open to remote with travel)

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Role Summary

The SVP and Head of Carrier Relations & Management will be a key member of the executive leadership team, reporting directly to the CEO. This individual will lead the strategy and execution of carrier engagement across a national footprint, overseeing relationships with more than 250 insurance carriers.

The role will influence strategic planning at the Board level, optimize carrier performance, and support agency growth by ensuring access to a broad and competitive suite of products. It also includes responsibility for growing and developing a carrier relations team and driving continuous improvement in how the organization partners with its carrier network.

Key Responsibilities

Vision & Strategy

  • Lead the long-term strategy for carrier engagement to support agency growth and profitability.
  • Monitor market trends to ensure the firm remains a preferred partner to top carriers.

Carrier Engagement

  • Serve as the primary relationship manager to regional and national carriers.
  • Ensure carriers are aligned with company strategy and performance expectations.
  • Lead quarterly and annual business reviews with key partners.
  • Resolve escalated issues involving underwriting appetite, agent conduct, or compliance concerns.

Appointment Expansion

  • Identify and secure new carrier appointments across all active markets.
  • Negotiate access terms, including minimum production requirements and exclusive arrangements.

Performance & Profitability

  • Partner with internal finance and analytics teams to monitor loss ratios, retention, growth, and bonus achievement.
  • Negotiate carrier agreements including commissions, bonus programs, and performance incentives.
  • Drive improvement in profit-sharing and contingent compensation across the book.

Agency Enablement

  • Collaborate with Marketing and Agency Development to promote carrier programs to agents.
  • Ensure agents are well-equipped with tools and training to succeed with each carrier partner.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Partner closely with Finance, Compliance, Recruiting, and Operations to ensure alignment on growth goals and delivery.

Market Intelligence

  • Stay informed of market dynamics including regulatory changes, product trends, and competitive activity.
  • Identify and close gaps in carrier access based on geographic or product need.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Industry Experience: 10+ years in the P&C insurance industry with 7+ years in a senior carrier relations or distribution leadership role; alliance/aggregator/MGA experience strongly preferred
  • Strategic Leadership: Proven success building and executing national carrier engagement strategies
  • Contract & Negotiation Expertise: Skilled in carrier agreement structuring, commission models, and contingent comp mechanics
  • Analytical Acumen: Ability to leverage data and performance metrics to inform decisions and optimize outcomes
  • Relationship-Driven: Trusted partner to carrier executives, adept at navigating complex organizational dynamics
  • Executive Presence: Comfortable interfacing with Board members and representing the company externally
  • Growth Orientation: Thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and is capable of leading change at scale
