Job Description

The Maryland School for the Deaf (MSD) is a diverse, bilingual community committed to providing an equitable and exemplary education in a nurturing, engaging, and challenging environment. We are seeking dedicated individuals to join us in educating our students. This is a twelve-month position within the Career & Technical Education (CTE) Department at the Frederick Campus of MSD. Location of Position MSD, Frederick Campus, 101 Clarke Place, Frederick, MD 21705 Main Purpose of Job To lead and expand MSD’s CTE program by providing progressive education, leadership, and supervision of staff and students, collaborating with the High School Department and Transition Services. Position Duties Model effective teaching strategies for instructional staff. Participate in developing and implementing Maryland’s College and Career Readiness Standards in technical subjects. Manage curriculum, instruction, and assessment changes to ensure high student learning levels. Maintain bilingual education concepts throughout the school. Evaluate the performance of team leaders, teachers, and aides. Assist in developing and implementing IEPs and participate in meetings. Assess staff needs and provide staff development. Coordinate class scheduling, course development, and teacher assignments. Participate in hiring processes for new CTE staff. Align program growth with Maryland’s educational standards and economic trends. Manage student behavior and create collaborative community relationships. Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Chief Educational Programs Officer. Minimum Qualifications Master's Degree in Deaf Education or related field. At least three years of successful teaching experience with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. Maryland State Department of Education Administrator II Certification or ability to obtain it. Understanding of behavior principles and interventions. Fluency in American Sign Language and written English; knowledge of Deaf community. Excellent interpersonal and active listening skills. Desired Qualifications Administrative or supervisory experience. Leadership experience in organizing and resource management. Experience teaching CTE courses at middle or high school levels. Knowledge of educational strategies for Deaf students with additional needs. Experience developing community-based opportunities. Special Requirements Applicants must pass a criminal background check and submit three letters of recommendation.
